Topic: “Know-How” in Theory, “Affect” in Practice

This talk aims at focusing on a much-neglected aspect of teacher education: “Affect”. The talk will address the importance of feelings and emotions in teaching and teacher training as well as the results of the reciprocal relationship between teaching/training and student/trainee learning. The presentation ultimately aims to share the implications of affective attributes for ELT teachers, managers, and teacher educators from the perspectives of pre-service, in-service teacher training, and teacher/trainer recruitment.


Bio

Asst. Prof. Dr. Bahar Gün holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees in ELT. She currently works as a lecturer and a teacher trainer in the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). She is the former head of the Teacher Development Unit in the SFL. Her research interests include EFL teacher education in general, and teacher cognition and RTL in particular. She is also a CELTA tutor. She has presented at many national and international conferences and extensively published in the field of ELT.

She is the former president of the TESOL Türkiye Association, the coordinator of IATEFL TTEdSIG, and an executive board member of DEDAK.
